This week we are writing our own stories based on our story ‘The Disgusting Sandwich’. Yesterday, we took our a sandwich around school. Unfortunately, lots of disgusting things happened to our sandwich! We then went back to class and planned our stories based on what had happened to our sandwich!

Making the most of the sun!
On Friday in our Art lesson we made the most of the nice weather and took our learning outside! First, we looked in class carefully at a dandelion in the different stages of its “life”. We looked at the flower and the seeds. We then went outside and found sketched dandelions, looking carefully at the shapes of the petals and the length of the stem.
Bluebell sketching
Our topic this half term is Flourishing Me. As we are learning about plants in Science, in Art, we are going to be doing lots of sketching of wild flowers.
Today, we walked up Nursery Lane to have a look at the bluebells. We saw lots of bluebells on our local walk last week, so the children were very excited to sketch them! We talked about how a bluebell looked like a bell, like the one we use in class.
We started by practising sketching the lines and shapes we could see, focusing on the bell shape we had talked about. The children then used what they had learnt in Science to draw the stem, leaves and petals of the bluebell.
The Disgusting Sandwich
This week we have been learning our story map for “The Disgusting Sandwich”. We have loved thinking of actions for each part of the story!
Local Walk to Adel Woods
In 1C we started off our half term by going on a local walk to Adel Woods. This morning, we began learning about human and physical features in Geography, then on our walk, we spotted them in our local area. We noticed lots of things such as the aqueduct, the river, the woods and the park. I was so impressed with how far the children walked and how resilient they were! This week we are going to spend time drawing maps of our route and talking more about human and physical features in our local area.
Happy Easter!
In 1C today we were getting ready for Easter! We worked together to make Easter nests. They were delicious! I hope everybody has a fantastic break!
Allerton is on fire!
This afternoon in 1C we celebrated the end of our Great Fire of London topic by burning the Tudor Houses we made during our Arts Fortnight. We enjoyed listening to the sound of the fire and looking at how our houses turned to ash! We also enjoyed singing London’s Burning! Thank you to all the grown ups that came to celebrate with us.
More outdoor maths
Today in maths we started learning about length and height. We practiced using the words longer and shorter to describe objects on the playground. Some children then challenged themselves by measuring the length and height of the objects using rulers.
Great Fire of London workshop
This afternoon 1C had their Great Fire of London workshop. The children enjoyed building their own Tudor Houses using wattle and daub. They worked together in teams to build the structures using sticks then added mud to strengthen them. We then talked about what materials would have been better to use to build a house in 1666 and they had a go at building their own. All of the children really impressed me with all the facts they remembered about the Great Fire of London!
Number lines
This morning we made the most of the nice weather by doing some maths outside. The children drew number lines using their knowledge of numbers to 50. We then practised writing the midpoint on the number line and estimating where the other numbers would go.
