Inspired by the RNLI lifeboats we saw in Filey and the Titanic we have been learning about, we became boat designers and engineers! First, we carefully planned our boats, thinking about which materials would be waterproof, strong and able to float. We then built our creations and tested them on the water to see if they were successful. After our investigations, we evaluated our designs by discussing what we were proud of and what we would improve next time. We were so impressed with everyone’s creativity, problem-solving and resilience throughout the challenge! 🌊🛥️

Telling the Time to One Hour
This week in maths we have been learning how to tell the time. I was very impressed with how quickly everyone in 1C picked up telling the time to one hour (o’clock). We noticed that the hour hand was shorter than the minute hand and this helped us draw the correct time on our own clocks.
Filey
What a fantastic day 1C had on our trip to Filey! We had so much fun playing on the beach, enjoying our picnic lunch and building some incredible sandcastles – some even featured Hot Wheels tracks and cars for an extra creative twist!
We also loved visiting the RNLI Lifeboat Station, where we learned all about the amazing people who help keep us safe at sea. It was a brilliant opportunity to find out more about the important work they do.
To finish off our day, we enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream in the park before hopping back on the coach with lots of happy memories to share.
A huge thank you to all of our wonderful family volunteers for giving up your time to help make our trip so special. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Number lines to 100
In Maths, we have been learning about number lines to 100 and using them to help us count and find numbers. To make our learning even more exciting, we took our maths lesson outside and drew our own number lines with chalk on the playground. We enjoyed working together in the sunshine, practising our number skills while making the most of the beautiful weather. It was a fun and active way to bring our learning to life!

Titanic Music Workshop
We enjoyed taking part in a fantastic musical workshop all about the Titanic. We learned about the different groups of people who travelled on the ship and explored the types of music they would have listened to during the voyage. The children had great fun creating and playing their own music, as well as trying out some of the dances that passengers may have enjoyed on board. It was an engaging and interactive experience that brought history to life through music!
Sports Day!
On Wednesday KS1 had a fantastic time at Sports Morning, taking part in a range of track events and fun races. The water relay and egg race were particular highlights, bringing lots of excitement and smiles! It was wonderful to see such excellent team spirit throughout the morning, with plenty of cheering and encouragement from everyone involved. A huge congratulations to Birkdale, who were crowned the overall winners. Well done to all our children for their enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship!
Where The Wild Things Are
This week in our writing lessons we have been learning our new story map, based on the story “Where the Wild Things Are”. We split the class into two teams and each day we had a “battle off” to see who was able to perform the story map the best (with the best cool poses of course)! Well done everyone, I was so impressed with how well you performed the story map each day!
Experimenting with water colours
This week we experimented with water colours to explore different ways of creating art. We used a variety of brush strokes to make shapes, lines and patterns, learning how colours can blend together.
The Big Sing!
This week at ACE we celebrated Mental Health Awareness Week. As part of this, on Wednesday, we all went onto the playground for the whole school to take part in the ‘Big Sing’. We sang one of our favourite songs in KS1, ‘Together’. We also sang our school song. It was so lovely to see all of the children joining in! Well done 1C!
Geography map work
In Geography this week we have been continuing to investigate our local area by looking at some aerial maps. We looked at lots of different types of maps and tried to find human and physical features on each of them. The children were challenged to find a school, a field and a roundabout and identify whether they were human or physical. I was really impressed that lots of them managed to also find houses, shops, roads and woods. Some of them even found their own houses!
