On Tuesday 1C visited St John’s church to learn about baptism. Reverend Sharon showed us where the font was in the church. She also showed us where the bible is kept and where the lectern is. Reverend Sharon then acted out a baptism with the children. Some children enjoyed pretending to be the Mum and Dad and the Godparents for the baptism.

Dance workshop
Last week Year 1 had the opportunity to attend a dance workshop. The children loved learning new dance moves!
Holi Colour Run
On Thursday some of 1C took part in the colour run to celebrate the festival of Holi. They had a fantastic time!
Pancake day races
This week the children celebrated Shrove Tuesday by doing pancake races! The children raced against each other in their houses and were very supportive team members. Well done 1C!
Beebots
In our ICT lessons this half term 1C have loved learning how to use the beebots. Last week we learnt what the different buttons do and how we could programme a bee bot to move where we wanted it to. We spoke about the word “algorithm” and what this means. The children then had a go at directing the beebots. Today, the children were working on trying to get the beebots around different obstacles.

Computer whizzes!
This week 1C have been working really hard on their ICT skills by practising logging into a computer. This half term our ICT unit is Digital Art. The children were asked to draw a self portrait and then in the following lesson they created abstract art. We looked at the artist Piet Mondrian and discussed how he had used different coloured rectangles and squares. The children did a fantastic job at finding the correct shape to use and then filling it with their choice of colour.

History investigation
In History this week 1C investigated the differences between household objects in the past and in the present. We talked about the material of the objects as well as the colour, shape and function. All of the children were very surprised how different a hot water bottle and a toilet looked! The children had to work with their group to compare the objects and write down their similarities and differences.
The King’s Hats
Last week we started to learn our new story in Talk For Writing, ‘The King’s Hats’. Our focus has been descriptive writing and we have been working on using adjectives in our writing. This week the children thought of adjectives to describe different hats, including the King’s crown and wrote sentences about them. I hope you enjoy our retelling of the story!
Leeds City Museum trip!
Today 1C went to Leeds City Museum. The children loved catching the bus into town and looking around the museum. We looked carefully at the maps, especially those that showed Leeds now and in the past. We also enjoyed looking at the old-fashioned artefacts from the 1940’s and the 1950’s. This helped us to think about what things such as household objects and shops would have looked like when King Charles was a child. We were really surprised what the school desk looked like and how different it was to what we know now!
Winter walk
Today in Science we were looking at seasons. We talked about what season we thought it was now and how we knew that. We went on a winter walk around the school grounds and talked about what we noticed. The children were very observant and noticed things like there being no leaves on the trees, the temperature being low and that we couldn’t see many animals, especially birds. We also talked about the purpose of bird feeders and why these are so important in winter.
