Last week we started to learn our new story in Talk For Writing, ‘The King’s Hats’. Our focus has been descriptive writing and we have been working on using adjectives in our writing. This week the children thought of adjectives to describe different hats, including the King’s crown and wrote sentences about them. I hope you enjoy our retelling of the story!

Leeds City Museum trip!
Today 1C went to Leeds City Museum. The children loved catching the bus into town and looking around the museum. We looked carefully at the maps, especially those that showed Leeds now and in the past. We also enjoyed looking at the old-fashioned artefacts from the 1940’s and the 1950’s. This helped us to think about what things such as household objects and shops would have looked like when King Charles was a child. We were really surprised what the school desk looked like and how different it was to what we know now!
Winter walk
Today in Science we were looking at seasons. We talked about what season we thought it was now and how we knew that. We went on a winter walk around the school grounds and talked about what we noticed. The children were very observant and noticed things like there being no leaves on the trees, the temperature being low and that we couldn’t see many animals, especially birds. We also talked about the purpose of bird feeders and why these are so important in winter.
Making Christmas trees
In our workshop this week the children were challenged to make their own Christmas tree decoration. They had to cut the plate to make a spiral shape and mix the correct colours to make green.

Exploring clay
Last week in 1C we began to explore clay. In our Art lessons we have been working on sketching ourselves and our partner. We looked at the shapes we could see when sketching and tried to create these with clay. We practised techniques such as rolling and pinching to create a model of our partner.

Soup making!
On Friday, 1C made vegetable soup! In Writing this half term we have been learning about instruction writing. This week, the children will be writing instructions about how to make soup. This meant that when we were making the soup, we had to think really carefully about each step and what we were doing. We remembered to use “bossy verbs” such as chop, slice and grate to describe what we were doing. Some children then helped Ms Tarbin put the soup on to boil in the Cafe before we blended it and tasted some ourselves! Well done everyone, I can’t wait to read your instructions about this!

Anti-Bullying Week
Last week at ACE we did lots of learning for Anti-Bullying Week. The children all learnt a ‘Stop Bullying’ rap. They absolutely loved practising this in class!
Marmalade Sandwiches
This week in writing we have been learning instructions for how to make a marmalade sandwich. We practised the story map and then the children made their own marmalade sandwiches. They had to practise following instructions with their partner, thinking about which bossy verbs to use and what order to do the instructions in. We loved trying the marmalade sandwiches. They were very tasty!

Helicopter Christmas story
In R.E we started learning about the Christmas story. We talked about the characters, setting and beginning, middle and end of the story.

1C international cafe
This half term our topic is “We Are One”. Through this topic, we are learning about our country and what is means to be “one”. In our role play area we introduced an “International Cafe”. We looked at what countries our families are from and what kind of food we might eat in these countries.
