Titanic music workshop

Today we had a visit from some musicians to do a Titanic music workshop with us. It was great to hear some of the music that would have been played in the different classes on the ship. We even got to try playing some instruments ourselves and danced to the music!

Sea paintings

In Art this half term Year 1 are creating pictures inspired by the sea. In History we learnt about Grace Darling and the people she saved from the boat crash. The children used paintings that different artists had created of the sea to help them with their pictures. We talked about the different green and blue colours we could see. Last week the children created a background with paint. They then went in again this week and created a collage over the top to add different textures. We can’t wait to see the finished pictures!

Emoji Hunt

This week at ACE it is Mental Health Week. We did an emoji with the emotions from our emotions register. We then used these emotions to talk about different scenarios and imagined how these would make us feel and how we would resolve them.

The Disgusting Sandwich

This half term in our writing lessons we have been reading The Disgusting Sandwich. Before we planned our Hot Write we went outside and took a sandwich around the school to see if anything disgusting would happen to it. The children then used this setting as an option to innovate their story map. Well done 1C your stories were fantastic!

Arts Fortnight local walk

This week in 1C we started our Arts Fortnight. On Tuesday we went on a local walk to the park. This half term we are learning about human and physical features in Geography and so this was the focus of our walk. We also looked at the park as a setting, as in the Disgusting Sandwich and the different wild flowers we could see around the park like daisy’s and dandelions!

Great Fire of Allerton!

This afternoon Year 1 celebrated the end of our Great Fire of London topic by setting our Tudor houses on fire! The children also loved singing London’s Burning to their grown ups and also enjoyed showing them some Art and Writing work. Thank you to all the grown ups that came along- the children absolutely loved it!
