For national poetry week Year 1 have been learning the poem “Happy” by Michaela Morgan. We loved learning this poem and then writing some of our own lines for a class innovated poem!
This week we have started to learn the story of The Three Little Pigs. We have made our own story maps, a story mountain and started to put some actions with our storytelling to help us remember different parts of our traditional tale. We will be focusing on the openings and endings of stories over the next couple of weeks and it would be lovely if you can read some traditional tales at home and think about the language used by the authors.
I wonder if you could use the map or the videos of us performing our storytelling to practice at home?
This week we have been innovating the story of the Lazy Lion and changing some key parts of the story. We learned our new version and then wrote the story ourselves. This was the innovation phase of our unit on Talk 4 Writing in Year 1 and we have had so much fun learning the stories!
This week in our English lessons we have been learning to retell the story of the Lazy Lion. The rain is coming but he is so lazy he tries to make all the other animals build a house for him. Unfortunately, none of the houses they build are up to his high standards… and then the rain comes!
As part of our speaking and listening, 1C looked at some would you rather questions and focused on answering them in full sentences and using “because” to justify our thoughts.
I wonder what our adults would choose for some of these questions?
Today was national No Pens Wednesday in schools. With a focus on oracy and speaking and listening skills, we explored all our usual lessons, but without any pens, pencils or keyboards! Take a look at some of our activities!
